Countdown Pancakes
10 minutes
For some reason the first pancake always turns out thick and dreadful so aim to make at least two. Serve with maple syrup (US style), sugar and lemon (GB style) or orange and lemon juice plus Grand Marnier liqueur (Crêpe Suzette style).
Ingredients (makes 3 pancakes)
4 heaped tablespoons of flour
Pinch of salt
1 egg
200 ml milk
Knob of butter (or tablespoon of oil)
Equipment
Mixing bowl
Frying pan
Spatula
Set your countdown to 10 minutes
10: Locate a mixing bowl, frying pan, spoon and spatula.
9: Pour the flour in the mixing bowl and make a hole in the middle with a spoon.
8: Crack the egg into the hole and gradually stir the flour into the egg.
6: Add butter or oil to the frying pan and turn heat to hot.
5: Add salt to the flour mixture and gradually pour in the milk, all the time stirring it briskly with a spoon until it is a creamy batter and all the lumps have disappeared (by pressing them up against the side of the bowl).
4: Pour 1/3 batter mixture into centre of pan and move around until the bottom is covered in a thin layer.
3: Once there is no liquid on top of the pancake, flip it over with a spatula. Cook for a further minute.
1: Using the spatula, remove pancake onto plate and add topping.
0: Fold or roll pancake and eat it.
