Homemade Burgers
Buy as expensive beef mince as you can afford and serve with chips and buttered peas or French ‘steak frites’ style, with fries and a green salad.
Cost per student: £2.15 (€2.40)
Preparation time: 5 minutes. Cooking time: 6 minutes
Ingredients (serves 2)
500g of beef mince (makes 3-4 burgers)
Pinch of salt and pepper
30-40 capers
Equipment
Glass mixing bowl
Frying pan
Spatula
1. Add the mince to glass bowl or pudding basin (make sure you wash it after your mother has used it to cut your hair).

2. Add the salt, pepper and capers.

I
3. Mix it together and divide into three or four large balls.

4. Flatten mince into burger shapes with your fingers (approximately 2cm high).

5. Heat frying pan on high for 3 minutes. If non-stick add a teaspoon of oil.

6. Add burgers. You will see the darkness rising up the side of the meat as it is cooked but for a medium burger, flip after 3 minutes and cook other side for 3 minutes.

7. Wrap burgers in foil for a few minutes to tenderise and serve with mustard and ketchup.
